What are the main types of fabrics used in home textiles? Home textiles are indispensable products in people's lives, and there is a wide variety of home textile products made from various fabrics. So which fabric is the most suitable for us? Below, we will introduce some home textile fabrics and their characteristics.
Home Textile Fabric I: Pure Cotton - Very Soft
Pure cotton has a good feel, is comfortable to use, is easy to dye, has a rich variety of patterns, is soft and warm, has strong moisture absorption, is durable, and generates less static electricity. It is a widely used material for bedding; however, it is prone to wrinkling, shrinkage, and has poor elasticity. It is acid-resistant but not alkali-resistant, and should not be processed at high temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius for extended periods. Therefore, when ironing cotton products, it is best to spray them with water to make them easier to iron. If possible, ironing the products with a steam iron after each use will yield better results.
Home Textile Fabric II: Silk - The Most Smooth
Silk has a luxurious and elegant appearance, with a natural soft glow and shimmering effect. It feels comfortable, has high strength, and better elasticity and moisture absorption than cotton, but it is easily soiled and has lower heat resistance to strong sunlight than cotton. Its fiber cross-section is a unique triangle shape. When it absorbs moisture locally, the reflection of light changes, easily forming water stains that are difficult to remove. Therefore, when ironing silk fabrics, a white cloth should be used as a backing.
Home Textile Fabric III: Jacquard Pure Cotton - Thicker
High-count, high-density jacquard pure cotton fabrics have a particularly high warp and weft density, and rich weaving variations. Therefore, the fabric feels thick, has good durability, and high surface gloss, making it one of the more advanced types of pure cotton fabrics.
Home Textile Fabric IV: Color-Woven Pure Cotton - Prone to Shrinkage
Color-woven pure cotton is a type of pure cotton fabric woven with warp and weft yarns of different colors. Because it is dyed before weaving, the dye penetration is strong, the color fastness is good, and the three-dimensional effect of the differently colored yarns is strong, with a unique style. In bedding, it often appears as striped patterns. It has the characteristics of pure cotton fabrics, but usually has a higher shrinkage rate.
Home Textile Fabric V: Polyester/Cotton Blend - Affordable
Polyester/cotton blend products generally use a 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend. Polyester/cotton blends are divided into plain weave and twill weave. Plain weave polyester/cotton fabric is thin, has good strength and wear resistance, very little shrinkage, and the finished product is not easily deformed. It is also affordable, durable, but not as comfortable and close-fitting as pure cotton. In addition, because polyester is not easy to dye, polyester/cotton fabrics are mostly light and pastel colors, more suitable for spring and summer use. Twill weave polyester/cotton is usually denser than plain weave, so it appears denser and thicker, and has a better surface luster and feel than plain weave.
