Bedding “seasonal change” cleaning and maintenance knowledge
2020-08-27
As the weather warms up, dark-colored sheets and heavy blankets will soon be put away in the closet for "hibernation." Sheets are usually made of cotton or other natural fibers, such as linen and silk. Different materials require different care methods. Before storing sheets, experts recommend cleaning and using proper storage methods to extend their lifespan and keep them looking new.
Cotton
Cotton bedding is made from natural materials, is comfortable to use, highly absorbent, and static-free, but it wrinkles easily. It is the most commonly used bedding material.
Cleaning and Care
1. Light and dark-colored sheets should be washed separately. Dark-colored sheets, especially during the first few washes, are prone to color bleeding.
2. Use soap or neutral detergent (dissolved in water beforehand) and wash inside out in water around 40℃. Hand washing and machine washing are both acceptable. After washing, flatten and air dry, but avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent fading.
3. Cotton bedding is alkali-resistant but not acid-resistant, so avoid contact with acidic substances. Avoid sharp objects that could damage the fabric during washing. Be extra careful with embroidered bedding.
4. Iron at temperatures below 110℃. Fold neatly when storing and keep in a dark, well-ventilated place.
Linen
Linen bedding is highly absorbent, breathable, durable, and washable; the fabric even becomes brighter with each wash. The downside is that it is difficult to dye, resulting in a limited range of colors.
Cleaning and Care
Use neutral detergent and lukewarm water to gently wash. Do not brush, wring, or expose to direct sunlight; otherwise, the bedding may deform, fade, or shrink. Iron at temperatures below 110℃ and store in a well-ventilated, dark place.
Silk
Luxurious silk bedding is lightweight, breathable, and soft, but proper care is essential to maintain its beauty and extend its lifespan.
Cleaning and Care
1. Dry cleaning is recommended. If hand washing, dissolve neutral detergent or silk and wool detergent in cold water, then gently wash the bedding. Absorb excess water with a towel and air dry in a cool, well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight. When about 80% dry, iron at a low temperature (110℃~120℃) using a white cloth underneath. Avoid spraying water, as this may cause water stains.
2. The storage area should be kept dry and clean to prevent insect damage. You can add a desiccant. Do not store white silk bedding with mothballs, as this may cause yellowing.
